You have found us! Where are we, you ask? Tucked away in Eureka Township, Minnesota (about 35 miles south of Minneapolis). We're a couple of potters living out our dream to build a place in the country and make a living in ceramics. This blog is intended to keep people up-to-date on our crazy lives down here on the 'compound.' It'll contain posts about just about everything...mostly about pottery-making... but also about home-building, the dogs, natural wonders, kilns, travels, friends, family, you name it.
Allow me to introduce the primary characters that make up Eureka Pots:
Donovan Palmquist: husband, potter, kiln-builder, cook, gardener, lead dog (or so he thinks), all-around resourceful guy.
Colleen Riley: wife, full-time potter, extrovert, aging athlete, writing hack, overextended volunteer, teacher, dog mom.
Opie: resident big-eared yellow dog, overly-friendly hound-lab mix (especially with large labs, if you know what I mean), rabidly persistent varmint hunter, howler.
Frieda: resident fuzzy brown dog, wild-eyed german wirehaired pointer, fierce watchdog/big baby, seriously happy 70-lb lap dog.
The House: work-in-progress, modern and eco-friendly, flat roofs, steel siding, concrete/stone/wood, exposed steel beams, designed by Locus Architecture.
The Land: 14 peaceful acres, adjacent to wildlife management area, prairie meadows, oak/aspen woods, with abundant birds and wildlife.
The Studio: 700 sq ft, 24 feet from the kitchen door, equipped with all the necessary tools, and two soda-fire kilns.
There will be more about these characters in future posts. Stay tuned...
